Definition of Kidney Cysts

Kidney Cysts, also called renal cysts, are round thin-walled sacs or pouches on the kidneys that usually contain liquid. They may vary widely in size, but most are often small. Some are present at birth (congenital), and others are caused by tubular obstructions. Typically, only one cyst occurs on the surface of a kidney, but multiple cysts can affect one or both kidneys.

In most cases, the cysts are almost always benign (not cancerous) that rarely cause complications. Treatment is not normally required. However, Kidney Cysts can be associated with serious disorders that may impair kidney function. Extremely large cysts can replace much of the mass of the kidney and can eventually result in Renal Failure.

Causes of Kidney Cysts

1. Toxins.

This is one of the causes. The toxins may cause damage of various cells and organs so as to induce disease. In severe cases, the illness may be life-threatening.

2. Unhealthy dietary habit

Bad dietary habit may lead to many diseases. It can also lead to the development and progression of Kidney Cysts. Excess hungry will lead to malnutrition; while eating too much will damage the digestion and absorption function of spleen and stomach.

3. Congenital dysplasia

Kidney Cysts may present at patient's birth. Congenital dysplasia can lead to Medullary Sponge Kidney, PKD, etc. In the case, there is normally no abnormalities of the genes.

4. Imbalance of labour and rest

The disease may occur if people have immoderate labour work or strenuous exercises for long time.

kidney cyst treatment

Treatment is not necessary if the simple kidney cysts cause no signs or symptoms and don't interfere with the kidney function. Instead of treatment, the doctor will advise an ultrasound or CT scan periodically to check if the kidney cysts enlarge. However, treatment is needed if patients present symptoms.

1. Conventional treatment

Antibiotic therapy. If infection occurs, antibiotics treat the infected cysts. The doctor may order an antibiotic specific for the infection.

Needle puncture. This is chosen to collapse or decompress a large kidney cyst. This is done by inserting a needle, guided by ultrasound or x-rays, through the skin into the cyst. Then the fluid is drained from the cyst and the cyst is filled with an alcohol solution to prevent it from reforming. Re-occurrence of the kidney cyst is a downside of this procedure.

Laparoscopic cyst removal. If the cyst appears difficult to remove, surgery may be adopted to remove the cyst. The surgeon inserts a tool called a laparoscope into a small incision in the abdomen. This tool is used to drain fluid from the cyst and take out any excess tissue. The recovery time will be minimal, with a hospital stay of one or two days.

If complications, due to Kidney Cysts, result in Kidney Failure, dialysis may be necessary. A kidney transplant may become necessary in cases of end-stage renal disease.

In extreme cases, particularly if severe infection or cancer has caused irreversible damage, the whole kidney can be removed by an operation.

2. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy

This is a kind of innovative traditional herbal medicine. Chinese medicine is applied externally, and there is no side effects to patient's body. The treatment effects of Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy for Kidney Cysts mainly include two aspects:

▪ Control the growth of renal cysts. After the effective ingredients reach the kidney lesion, they can function to restrain the secretion of cystic fluid and inhibit the proliferation of epithelial cells and reduce the secondary pathological changes.

▪ Treatment for the enlarged cysts. Chinese medicines work to dilate the blood vessels, improve the blood circulation of the whole body, reverse the differential pressure between the cystic fluid and surrounding intravascular liquid, so the cystic fluid will gradually flow into blood and then be excreted out of the body.

Besides, during the treatment process, Chinese medicines will provide nutritions such as organic acid, vitamins, etc that are needed to repair the kidney damage. Over time, the damaged renal intrinsic cells can be repaired.

3. Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is an integrated Chinese and western medicine therapy developed by the renowned Chinese kidney specialists. As a systemic treatment, Immunotherapy can treat Kidney Cysts effectively through immune system regulation. Curative effects may include:

▪ According to specific illness condition, the symptoms will get ameliorated in different degress, and patient's quality of life gets significantly improved.

▪ Cysts of all sizes can be restrained and shrunk gradually. They will become smaller and smaller. Once disappear, the cysts will never recur again.

▪ Kidney function could be largely improved. This is based on the functions of Immunotherapy to anti-inflammation, remove harmful substances, promote micro-circulation, and create an advantageous milieu for repairing the kidney damage.
